Star college baseball players using wood bats will be playing for a new Valley League team named The Rockbridge Rapids beginning next summer.
Rockbridge's team is the 12th in the Valley League, which has a long list of alumni players who are current or past Major Leaguers. The League is known as the "Gateway to the Majors."
The Rockbridge Rapids will consist of about 28 college players from all areas of the U.S. Many of the players will be sophomores and juniors at Division I universities, but the Rapids will also recruit some local and small college stars.
"This is going to be a lot of fun and a great thing for our area. But the operation is very dependent on local support and help," General Manager Ken Newman, said. "This is truly a community team. We need everyone's help from bat boys to host families."
